Whole Body Cryotherapy FAQ’s
What are the benefits of cryotherapy?
There are many benefits to whole body cryotherapy including reducing inflammation, increasing calorie burn, decreasing recovery time, increasing athletic performance, improving sleep, reducing delayed onset soreness, and more.
What do I wear?
The only required clothing are socks, booties and gloves, which we provide. Men are required to wear boxers/briefs and women may leave any undergarments on as long as there is not any wiring attached.
How does cryotherapy work?
WBC is a process of exposing the body to ultra-cool air for no more than 3 minutes at a time in order to trick the brain that the body is freezing, triggering the body’s natural healing mechanisms. As your core works intensively to heat blood and transport it to your extremities, circulation is increased, purifying blood by replacing harmful toxins with oxygen. This oxygen-purified blood, full of hormones and enzymes, then courses to your muscles and organs, accelerating healing and recovery.
How cold does it get?
For the cryotherapy treatment to work, the cryo chamber hits optimal temperature at or below -160 degrees Farenheit. We typically keep our chambers between the temperatures of -193 and -254 degrees Fahrenheit.
Is there any reason I shouldn’t do cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is safe for anyone 14 and older unless you have one of the contra-indications. The following list is of the most common contra-indications for WBC: pregnancy, open wound or sore, are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, severe hypertension, have a heart or cardiovascular and respiratory disease, angina, arrhythmia, cardiac pacemaker, peripheral arterial disease, venous thrombosis, seizures, Raynaud’s Syndrome, tumor disease, severe anemia, fever or infection, cold-allergy or cold-induced asthma, kidney and urinary tract diseases, polyneuropathy, hyperthyroidism, bacterial and viral skin infection, have had a heart attack which dates less then 6 months. Always check with your doctor before cryotherapy treatments if you have any concerns.
Does cryotherapy hurt?
No. Cryotherapy involves cold, dry air but the treatment never freezes skin tissues, muscles, or organs. You will feel very cold, and some people experience a bit of a tingling sensation, but you should feel great upon finishing your treatment and experiencing an endorphins release.
How can I get optimal results?
Based on studies and the experiences of our clients, optimal results are achieved after a handful of consistent sessions. In other words, while you will feel great after one session, you will find the best results come from 5-10 consistent sessions. Once those initial sessions are out of the way, the best way to maintain and continue improving your performance and recovery is to be on a consistent schedule and we recommend three times a week.
Do I have to make an appointment?
No! Most of our clients just walk in, but if you would like to make an appointment, feel free to go online or call us!
